Ames Reflectance Meter Prototype
Pictured is one of the early prototypes of Clemens invention of what he called the Ames Reflectance Meter, now referred to as a blood glucose monitor. This product was used in the patent application process in 1968.
Antecedent of the Blood Glucose Meter
Prior to the invention of the blood glucose meter, physicians would test urine samples to identify glucose levels. This practice dates back to the early beginnings of diagnosing diabetes with ancient Egyptian healers.
