I read the article “Urban Headphone Listening and the Situational Fit of Music, Radio and Podcasting.” written by Lars Nyre. This article went over the history of the headphone and then how it is used by different people now days in urban environments. It was a really interesting to read his section that went over the different headphones and basically figured out why people wear headphones. He wrote about how they went from the loud speaker to the headphones and it varied the type of music based on the individual. I think this article gave me a solid understanding of why our research on the headphones is actually important. The article studied different people and what they were more likely to listen to through their headphones which is why I chose this picture to go along with my blog post. I really like this picture because it is vintage and shows how versatile the headphone really is. This piece of technology has gone through many generations of people and is still to most a necessity. I know for me personally I don’t do any running without headphones and to watch that technology change from a huge headset to now something you can use wirelessly and not even notice you’re wearing them is amazing. This article has opened the door for more research on headphones for me and made me see how interesting our topic will be.
