Beatie, we will use Chapters 9 (pp. 42\u201350) and 10 (pp. 50\u201357), as they provide important contextual information regarding the development of the antecedents of Western saddles. In addition, we will use selected passages from Chapter 15 (pp. 93\u201397, 112\u2013118, 153\u2013163) to explain the major parts of the saddle in the documentary.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In <em>Man Made Mobile: Early Saddles of Western North America<\/em>, we will use the chapters \u201cHorizons of the Western Saddle\u201d by Richard E. Ahlborn (pp. 4\u201321), \u201cOrigins of Mexican Horsemanship and Saddlery\u201d by Daniel F. Rubin de la Borbolla (pp. 21\u201339), and \u201cWestern Saddles Before the Cowboy\u201d by James S. Hutchins (pp. 39\u201372), as they provide extensive information about the history of colonial, Mexican, and early types of Western saddles, along with their social and economic contexts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In <em>United States Military Saddles 1812\u20131943<\/em> by Randy Steffen, we will primarily use Chapter 1, \u201cThe Walker Contract Saddle and Other Dragoon Saddles, 1812\u20131814\u201d (pp. 3\u201317); Chapter 2, \u201cDragoon Saddles, 1833\u20131841\u201d (pp. 17\u201333); and Chapter 3, \u201cThe Ringgold and Grimsley Saddles, 1844\u20131847\u201d (pp. 33\u201349), as they discuss military antecedents to the Western saddle.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We will also use the collection <em>The Journals of Zebulon Montgomery Pike, with Letters and Related Documents<\/em>, edited by Donald Jackson, as a primary source. Specifically, pages 85\u201389, where Zebulon Pike discusses contemporary saddles.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Finally, we will include photographs from <em>Man Made Mobile: Early Saddles of Western North America<\/em>, specifically images of the estradiota (Figure 21), the jineta (Figure 17), and the comparison between the estradiota and jineta styles (Figure 14).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Documentary outline.
