We asked students at UMW to explain their relationship with IMAX and going to the movies. Most of the responses support our evidence of a better viewing experience, however a key theme of luxury and pricing is present throughout.
IMAX offers a better movie experience than any home ever could. The only issue I find myself in is paying too much for tickets.

However, some students also expressed their dislike or disinterest in IMAX theatres as well, which goes against some of our findings.
I sort of see IMAX as a luxury. When I go to the movies, if it’s more expensive, I often pick the standard option instead. However, I do think it amplifies the experiences of most films, and it is starting to become the new norm for up-to-date film technology.
It’s cool, but not worth the extra money
I love going to the movies but since movie tickets are getting more and more expensive I only go see movies every once in a while. For me IMAX is only worth the money if it’s a movie franchise I love. If I’m not a huge fan I’d rather get regular tickets on value days or wait for it to come out on streaming.
