In 1972, Atari (a name that came from a term used in the ancient game of “Go“) was founded in Sunnyvale, California by Nolan Bushnell and Ted Dabney. Their focus was on something that was brand new at the time, video games. Five years after the successful launch of Pong, the company launched the Atari 2600 Video Computer System (VCS) and help kickstart the video game industry, one of the largest industries in history.
